aww thanks so much!! i am so so sorry this has taken me a while to get to, but i'm happy to answer!!

to get the last one out of the way first: i've probably mentioned this, like, a million times already, but haikyuu has so much great symbolism and imagery and characters that just make it really fun to dive into and think about!! they all come together to make a beautifully constructed story, which can be very difficult to do when the genre is realistic fiction/sports. and i like that the overall messages and themes are very hopeful and uplifting at the end of the day—it's about connection, it's about dreams, it's about trying again and again. it's about getting back up!!! it's about trusting in the people around you, and being able to trust yourself. it's something i really appreciate and keep close to heart. i love haikyuu for lots of reasons, but this covers the basics of it pretty well!!

now, as for the rest of what you've asked . . .

top 5 characters:

okay i'm going to cheat a little and say that kageyama and hinata are obivously tied for first. i can't help it!! they're the main charas and they do it so so well. the growth that they go through is one of my favorite things about them, as are the relationships they have with each other and the people around them. they're sort of a package deal, really, so i don't think you can blame me for that

in second place i would have to say oikawa!! beautifully flawed and beautifully human and such a great antagonist overall. i think he's the closest we've ever seen to a character almost making a mistake that they would have regretted (ie hitting kageyama), and even despite all that it's not like he truly hates kageyama or wants him to stop marching on his own path. he's also just really funny and pathetic i love him

YAKU!!!! YAKU MORISUKE MY BELOVED. i like him because i find him very relatable and i love what he does for nekoma!!!! he's so badass!!!!!!! everyone loves him everyone thinks he's so cool AND i love his whole thing with shibayama and lev. he's kind and caring but hides it under like five layers of being a bitch bastard if you're someone who annoys him i love him so much oh my god

and on that note kenma!! thinking about who he used to be, who he helped kuroo become . . . the fact that he finds volleyball fun and admits it . . . the fact that he loves it despite how exhausting it is . . . how he loves his friends and team . . . kenma's story was so wonderfully done and i adore it with every bit of my soul. he cares soooooo much!!!!! i adore that about him!!!!

hngngnsdhfsjyuef last one this is so hard . . . but i think i'm going to have to say hoshiumi! the way he wants to prove how he has nothing to prove and wants to leave no room for doubt . . . right off the bat he recognized hinata for what he was worth because they were the same!!! and the way he said he'd wait for hinata!!!!!! i could probably go into so much about how hoshiumi was probably the first to look at hinata and see a true and proper rival because there was no way he couldn't when he knew what it was like!!

top 7 moments:

oooooh boy. okay first off is the first boom jump during the nekoma match, when kageyama calls for an open!!!! i love this for obvious reasons but UGH the fact that it symbolizes kageyama's trust in hinata and is a testament to how far they've both grown . . . how kageyama decided to make it a set for hinata rather than giving up on him . . . how hinata was able to fly to reach it . . . it is soooooo good oh my god

hmm second i would have to say are definitely the parallelism panels (real match vs practice) during the nekoma match!!! the idea that karaneko playing against each other is so familiar and so fun that it feelsl ike home and feels like any other day is so precious to me. truly one of the best moments that show how haikyuu is about connection and love and passion.

"someone even better will come and find you" are you SHITTING me. everything we learned about kageyama and his grandfather broke my heart but that scene especially, followed by hinata's "i'm here!" easily makes into top seven for me oh my god. i get so many emotions thinking about it and it was just so incredibly well done.

when hinata yells "I'M HOME" during the jackals v adlers match!!! and everyone yells 'WELCOME BACK" and kageyama says "took you long enough" GAH i want to cry. baby is home and he's back amd he's here and they're together again!!!!! i just hngngngn UGH

when oikawa shows up at olympics with argentina!!! and he calls it a family reunion!!!! i wanted to cry!!!! i guess it does depend on the translations you've seen but i MUCH prefer it when he calls it that because that really solidifies what haikyuu means!!! and it shows how he's never forgotten where he came from!!!

kenma's "this is painful. this is tiring. i don't want it to end" with the panel of him GETTING BACK UP AND RUNNING TOWARDS THE MATCH??? that meant EVERYTHING to me oh my god.

ughhhhh last moment . . . this is so hard . . . i'm going to cheat and say hinata's collapse during kamomedai because of everything that happens after it!!! takeda on his knees talking to him, kenma's "i came to cheer up a friend", kageyama's "but i wanted to go further with this team" . . . it gave us so many good things and i think is also such a pivotal moment in the story!!! i don't think most people were really truly expecting it (although people have def picked up on its foreshadowing before) and it makes you think that really anything can happen during a match i'm adding a bonus to this: that moment during the all-stars match when oikawa asks ushijima what he thinks of oikawa's "petty pride" now, and ushijima tells him "i think it's fantastic". LIKE HOLY FUCK WE HAVE COME FULL CIRCLE!!!!!!!!

top 3 matches:

okay this probably goes without saying but karaneko at nationals!!! that was everything to me!!! that was what we were all waiting for!!!! i know there are those who don't like it because of how it ended but imo it's very fitting for someone like kenma and it really does, once again, give off the sense that anything can happen in a match and can make you win or lose—it's what furudate's been trying to tell us this whole time, even if some read it as a cop-out.

inarizaki match definitely. it was really really good not just for introducing inarizaki and their stories but also the fact that we realize hinata doesn't have to be chained!!!! there are people capable of keeping up with him and there are people who WANT to keep up with him at his level!!!! atsumu was the first determined to do so!!!!!!! (which i could talk about more but like. that's a story for another time)

AGH last one was so hard . . . it was a toss-up between karasuno v seijoh (spring high playoffs), karasuno v shiratorizawa, or jackals v adlers and i'm going to have to say jackals v adlers!! i love the other two but the fact that we got a match fthat shows how far everyone's come and how they're still connected and passionate and full of hopes and dreams is my favorite thing ever. we got some GREAT stories within that match and we got to see so many characters return!!! what more could you ask for, really?? i will say tho that i'm giving honorary mention to nekoma v nohebi i've got such a soft spot for that match LMAO

Tickletober Day 5 - Boo!

Ogus’s Laws - ler!Su Yuan, lee!Fu Yu

Su Yuan tried to scare Fu Yu by tasing his sides. Let’s just say that more than just a loud shriek left his mouth after that.

This pairing is a canon ship within the story, so this is romantic, however there are no romantic scenes within this fic.

“What was that?” “What was what?” “That sound you made?” Su Yuan had merely meant to scare Fu Yu, but surely he couldn’t be that scared…right? “It was nothing…now what do you want?” Classic Fu Yu, dodging the question by changing the topic. Instead of answering, he simply poked Fu Yu’s sides again. Fu Yu tensed, and let out a strangled noise, but otherwise there was no reaction. Su Yuan paused…and then a cheshire cat like grin was plastered on his face. Fu Yu furrowed his brow, “Don’t even think about it-”

He was interupted when 10 fingers dug into his sides. Figures he’d attack when Fu Yu was talking, now he couldn’t hold back his reactions. His normal smooth, monotone voice was replaced by cute boyish giggles. Su Yuan’s eyes sparkled in awe, he’d never seen Fu Yu let go like this. “S-Suhuhu Yuhuahan! Q-Quihihit ihihit rihihight nohohow!” Fu Yu tried to sound angry, but the cute giggles kinda ruined that. Su Yuan could see clearly that Fu Yu was holding back from pushing him away. There were three possible answers as to why this was.

Either 1, he didn’t want to hurt Su Yuan, which was really sweet of him. 2, he didn’t actually want Su Yuan to stop, which was adorable. Or 3, both option 1 and 2, which would be the most likely answer in this case. It was clear he didn’t want to hurt Su Yuan, but it could never be that easy of an answer. Su Yuan decided to ask him, “Hey Fu Yu, are you enjoying yourself?~” He hadn’t meant for it to be a tease, but it came out as one. Fu Yu shookhis head, letting out growly giggles, “I ahaham nohoHOHOT WAHAHAIT NOHOHO!”

Su Yuan’s fingers had reached the fox demon’s armpits, clawing their way around. Fu Yu’s arms came down to his sides as he let out shrieks and squeals, though all that did was trap Su Yuan’s hands. “Awww you trapped my hands, I guess I’ll just have to stay in this spot until you let me go~” Fu Yu let out an indignant shriek of protest, “NOHOHO YOHOHOU CAHAHAN GEHEHET FREHEHEE!” Su Yuan giggled, wiggling his fingers around in the hollows, “I can’t! You’ve trapped my hands!”

Fu Yu’s laughter continued on through the night. Did he ever free Su Yuan’s hands? Who knows~

Top 5 favorite Haikyuu games!

I'm still riding that buzz after watching the Haikyuu movie and after sorting my thoughts and giddiness, I thought I'd make a list of my top favorite Haikyuu volleyball games!

The Battle at the Garbage Dump/The Dumpster Battle (Karasuno vs. Nekoma): This isn't just because of the movie, I genuinely love this game! It's so good! Kenma's strategy and genuinely finding love for the sport was the biggest highlight! I will forever love Kuroo's and Kenma's backstory and Hinata's struggle but never giving up. That shot if the crow breaking out of the cage, the shot of Hinata and Kenma's knife fight. Heck, the movie making the last bit full on Kenma's POV! Everything was so good!

Karasuno vs. Inarizaki: Another game where so many things came together. From Noya's struggle and inner conflict, to Tanaka realizing that he's average but he's never giving up, Kinoshita realizing he's also important, all of it was so good! And Inarizaki is just a great team, introducing so many great characters (Kita, I love you!) The ending of that match will forever be my favorite of Hinata and Kageyama knowing how to stop their own quick.

Fukurodani vs. Mujinazaka: I like Kiryu. We should've had more of him and his team~ (I was rooting for them).

Karasuno vs. Date Tech: The revenge match! Where Asahi gets his confidence fully back, Noya puts all that training to use, Hinata realizing how great being a decoy is! It's the highlight of season one for me!

Karasuno vs. Aoba Johsai (2nd time): This match is what made me appreciate Oikawa. I will forever have that moment of him setting for Iwaizumi and crashing into the table but still getting back up while thinking, "Talent is something you make bloom. Instinct is something you polish" that was beautiful! It was a good send off for these characters too.

Those are my top 5! Anyone else want to share there's? I'm so curious!

kuroken are that duo that don’t have to talk to each other when they’re alone together. they sit in comfortable silence and just sorta coexist peacefully. like kenma will be playing video games and kuroo is doing homework and they don’t say a word for a whole 3 hours. then they’ll part ways like “that was a successful date”

My friend and I took the day off work so we could go see Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle.

It was soooo good!!

I was extremely unhappy when I find out we were getting 2 movies instead of seasons 5 and 6. But the Karasuno and Nekoma match worked so well as a movie. And making the match a movie added some intensity to the whole thing as well. I'm glad it ended up working out--the storytelling and animation were flawless 😊

I've been a Nekoma girlie for 9 years now but this movie made me love then even more. Kenma's development through the whole match and the flashbacks to when he first met Hinata and started playing volleyball with Kuroo...It really got me in my feels 😭😭

I hope the second movie comes out soon. I don't want to wait another 4 years 😫

kenma always felt tired, introverted during games; but he always tries his best. his biggest fear is what others think of him, he can't help it though. during games he felt unmotivated at times, but it changed when he finally confessed his feelings for you at the start of second year due to the team and kuroo's nagging self.

according to his best friend's words, he finally ''snagged the girl of his dreams''. every match, if he ever needs to, takes a quick glance at his girlfriend cheering for him (the team) by the side.

when people started to realise the quiet gamer setter was dating the perky cheerleader. it was no better than yamamoto whining about how kenma got a girlfriend before him and yaku's teasing.

he didn't mind it though other than showing his flustered face everytime. he loved you and you were his personal cheerleader when he was down.

however, now he watched by the side, the aoba johsai match against fukorodani. you were cheering for oikawa (THE TEAM) , the male lead of almost all the female's eyes. it didn't help that you were from that school too, so he couldn't really know what happens.

he met you at the first practice match of seijoh and nekoma. you found him sitting outside during break time, playing animal crossing as his switch got taken away by the bedheaded male since the match was starting again.

you glanced at him and reached into your bag as you silently left the gym and handed it to the shocked guy. your switch was already turned on and ready to play even if there was 5 minutes left.

''you can return it later,'' you said and walked back in as he fiddled with the cat charm on it. that's how you two met, and got closer after.

he would text you in class secretly when he felt low on energy so he could get to read your comforting words. the match soon ended, with aoba johsai losing by two points.

he smirked mentally as the captain of seijoh cheered his teammates up. it immediately turned into a frown, physically, as he walked over to you and hugged you dramatically as you complained about his sweaty self.

''looks like yn might switch sides-'' lev said out loud unintentionally as yaku nudged him. kuroo tried to ease the tension as he patted kenma's back and turned to his team to get ready for their match in 10 minutes.

kenma stood up quietly as he snuck out, and to the designated locker rooms which you saw.

kenma didn't know why he left, it's not like he even had anything to distract himself with since his switch got taken away...but, he just waited.

then, the door opens as he sees you enter.

''what's wrong, kenma..?'' i walked towards the male sitting on the floor, against a locker as i approached and stood before him.

i reached from my pockets and took out a switch as i handed it to him and sat beside the now flustered guy.

''nothing..'' he mutters and immediately starts a game. you continued to sit beside him, watching as he occasionally fiddles with the cat charm while playing.

we both sat in silence as we heard the announcer's voice, informing them of the 3 minutes left. thinking his team might be stressed, you gently took the switch and patted his head as he groaned softly and stood up.

you pulled him out of the locker room, hand in hand as we walked back to the gym, muttering motivational words to him as he kept silent.

''yn...who is oikawa to you?'' he asks softly, his hair hiding his face.

''my cousin???'' he froze in his steps.

You don’t film specific videos with Kenma often, but when you do, it’s usually at his expense.

For this installation of his quarterly stream, he’s got you set up with an eye tracker just beside him. Naturally, you’re decked out in Kodzuken merch, and he can’t stop looking at it as he explains the rules.

“So- there’s gonna be two sides. One side is gonna have one picture, the other of another one-“

“Revolutionary, Kenma.”

“-Shut the hell up. Anyways, your going to look at one of them; if you look at the one of me, or the picture on the left, it’s free. If you look at the right one, I have to give 5 subs. Got it?”

“One question.”

“Sure.”

“Why do you set yourself up for failure?”

Kenma looks you up and down, “because I already settled for you.” You jaw drops in faux offense while he sets up the pictures. “Okay- cover your eyes.” Your hands come up to childishly cover your eyes, and Kenma is quick to set up the first set of images.

One of him in a compression shirt, post workout with sweat making the fabric cling impossibly closer to his muscles.

The other, of Maesi at just a small 8 months old.”

“Alright babe. Open.”

Your eyes do, and they small orbs tracking your eyes dart to your child.

“Awww, my baby,” you coo, hands coming up to your mouth as you look at the picture of Maesi while he pouts next to you.

“Wow… thought you would look at me, not gonna lie,” he snickers, adding five gifted subs to his total. In his monitor, he sees your eye tracker finally dart to his picture, fixating on his abs. “Yeah no, that one glance of our infant cost me 25 damn bucks, let’s try again.” You laugh next to him and gently clutch his arm affectionately.

In the next slide, there’s a picture of him in a worn out nekoma hoodie, and a picture of Bokuto in his MSBY jersey-

Inconveniently, your eyes dart to Bokuto’s hair.

“Babe.”

“I’m sorry!” You cackle. “His hair is just stupidly exciting, it’s a habit.”

“You see my luscious hair every day, and you pick his?”

You suck in a breath and Kenma glares at you. “Luscious?”

“Im gonna leave you.” He tacks on another five subs, and he looks over at you in playful offense. “I’m letting you know now; this next one is Toppo and Appa snuggling. If you look at them, this stream is over.”

“Why on gods decaying earth would you tell me that?” You whine. “Now I wanna see my little kitty and puppyyyy.”

“I am your Kitty. So shush.” With that, Kenma’s index finger clicks onto the next slide, and he’s gotta give you credit, your eyes dart to his side finally, then immediately dash to the picture of Appa sleeping in a ball, with Toppo curled on top in an extremely similar fashion. “At least you looked at me first.”

He adds one gifted sub to the total, trying to ignore your snickering next to him.

“But look at how cute they are-“

“Don’t try to save yourself,” he says, clearly trying to hide the smile in his voice.

“Okay,” You giggle.

This continues for more than Kenma would like- as amusing as he finds it.

One look at him. Another look at him. One look at an anime poster. Another look at a random picture of a panda bear.

He’d love to pretend that this is annoying him; but his teasing of you and your laughter and rapid explaining have him cackling to his own self.

The last picture is, naturally, the biggest test, and Kenma gives you a look before clicking the next link. It’s a picture of him, asleep with a newborn Maesi on his chest and hair sprawled everywhere- it’s one you took of him when you first brought her home. On the other side, is a stupid picture of the stupid actor you stupidly like so stupidly much.

Your eyes dart to him and Maesi. And he immediately leaps up, cheering and thrilled as you laugh at the reaction. “SHE LOVES ME, CHAT! WE FUCKIN’ DID IT! WE RIIIIIIDE!”

“Dramatic ass!” You snort, laughing in your hands while he celebrates in the background. “It’s because you had Spawn in your picture.”

“Worth it. Whoo!” He sits down next to you and leans over to kiss your cheek, arm tossing around you to keep you close. You titter and try to shrug him away, “the only woman to exist ever. The love of my life. Beautiful mother of my child.” The chat floods with donations and cheers, but all he can focus on is your playful bats against him. “Game over. I’ve won. Next task chat.”

“You’re annoying.”

“And you looked at me.”

The hyperfixation demons are screeching at me to write a comprehensive list of all the reasons I like Fukutora, so today I present to you "Ant ignores their responsibilites and spends several paragraphs explaining why Fukutora is peak despite them having roughly 10 seconds of shared screen time"

1. Contrasting Personalities In general their personalities fit together really well— Fukunaga barely speaks while Tora exclusively shouts at max volume and can't stfu to save his life, Tora's overly-intense and takes everything way too seriously while Fukunaga's cracking jokes in the middle of important games, they're even literal opposites on the court as the two wing spikers. Their differences compliment each other perfectly and because of that I think they'd grow a lot being together, Fukunaga would learn to open up and Tora would mellow out. Another good contrast is how Tora's all about looking cool and standing out while Fukunaga tends to blend into the background, which leads into my next point...

2. MY ROMAN EMPIRE (aka chapter 309) I know it's only two pages out of a 33 chapter match but i dont care, this scene makes me feral. I read the manga after watching Dumpster Battle, so imagine my suprise when my two favorite losers had a moment THAT GOT CUT FROM THE FUCJIGN MOVIE (I'm still salty, it should've been a full season).

Anyways these pages rooted their way into my brain because they show that even though Fukunaga goes unnoticed by most people (both in-universe and by readers) Tora realizes how great he is, and not only respects his play style but views him as a rival on the same level as himself. One thing I appreciate about Tora is that despite him being the stereotypical "strong manly athlete" type he doesn't think his methods are the best or only way of doing things; Fukunaga scoring points without "big fanfare" is just as cool as the shit he and Tanaka pull off. The phrasing "that I hafta surpass" could even imply that Tora sees Fukunaga as more than an equal, as someone who's ahead of him since he doesn't need to be flashy or loud to do amazing stuff.

Look at his smile on page two, bro's just excited to have someone who motivates him to keep pushing himself. And as we've learned from Kagehina: what's gayer than a rivalry?? All in all I think it's sweet that Tora notcies his efforts and admires him when few others do. Side Note, I've seen a translation of these that call them "Nekoma's Wings" and I think that's a sick nickname.

3. Bi Tora and Internalized Homophobia I love a good internalized homophobia arc, and characters like Tora that center so much around girls and manliness are some of the most fun to explore them with imo. You could say he's one of the least likely characters in hq to be queer since he's THE woman-lover next to Tanaka and Noya (and Yachi) but that's what makes it interesting—his gay awakening would hit like a tsunami and send him into life-ruining bi panic for months, especially since he's already such a mess when it comes to romance. He gives me the vibes of someone who has no problem with other people being gay but struggles when it comes to himself since it clashes with his conception of what it means to "be a man" or whatever. My point is he'd have the most intense no homo phase to grace this earth and I think that's both super funny and compelling for his character.

Also as a bi person myself it's kind of frustrating how bisexuality is treated online sometimes. It's annoying when a person's queerness is negated the moment they show attraction for the opposite gender, so headcanoning a character like Tora as a bi while still being openly into women makes me happy.

4. The Stage Play They're so silly in the stageplay. Why is he dragging him around by the feet? Why are they screaming at Kenma? Why is he constantly bopping him on the head in the background? WHY IS HE SERVING FACE IN THE PROMO PICTURES? So silly.

(Ignore how blurry these are lol) 5. Ant's Little Sister Bias This is a me thing, I like ships where one party has an annoying little sister who bothers them, sue me. Its cute. Akane and Fukunaga could have the most adorable friendship if you believe.

6. They Match Each Others Energy My first post about them was me rambling about this so just read that, TDLR they're both energetic menaces who match each other's freak.

7. Kenma's Forced Third-Wheel Purgatory Putting Kenma in a situation where Kuroo's graduated and his closest remaining friends are dating and constantly forcing him to third-wheel is just about the evilest thing you could do to the guy. He may be one of my favorites but this is well-deserved punishment for his crimes.

8. Baffled x Baffling Another ship dynamic I like a lot is when one person is unabashedly weird and the other thinks they're a total freak... but likes them anyways. They don't know why they like them. They can't explain it to anyone. Whenever the person does more weird shit they're like "why tf do I like you." But even so they're whipped as hell. Anyways Tora barely understands a single thing Fukunaga does and I think that makes for a funny crush to have.

9. Fukunaga's "Current Concern" Don't have much to add here, it's just proof to me that they hang out idc. Like why are you concerned about what he wants?? Kinda gay dude. Big fan of Fukunaga whispering to him and Tora answering at full volume so other people hear a one-sided conversation.

10. These Fics Before I knew this ship was even a thing I stumbled on these fics while browsing the Fukunaga tag, that's what got the gears turning:

• I hc Fukunaga as genderfluid so Tora still gets his chance to be a wife guy. Him and Tanaka ranting to each other while Kiyoko and Fukunaga drink tea in peaceful silence.

• I think Fukunaga's the type to enjoy people watching and Tora's always doing something dumb. Observing him like a little bug under a microscope

• They're both so silly looking, cartoony ahh designs. I just think they'd make a funny couple visually, they're so square and stick to me if that makes any sense lmaoo
